Poor old Brussels sprouts, they get such a negative reputation this time of the year. Always a compulsory side dish for the big Christmas dinner yet ridiculed for being the food that nobody really tucks into and instead stuffed inside a Tupperware box on the off chance someone is to make a Bubble & Squeak on Boxing Day. While sprouts are not particularly a vegetable that I would go out of my way for, I actually don’t mind them. But what I can’t stand is how we all feel a Christmas dinner isn’t right unless we have them but then a lot of us don’t actually eat them….

Goats Cheese, Leek and Mushroom Pie
French Onion Soup (with cheesy baguette slices)
This is rich and indulgent making it a perfect dish on a cold evening. Even though the cold winter in Berlin is not yet upon us, the weather has started to cool down over the past couple of weeks. I made this soup during the week after work. Just put all the ingredients in a pan and leave it to boil away.
I served this with some cheesy baguette slices on the side. I will hand this one to the Germans – baguettes in Berlin are skinny like the real French baguettes. If you are using the thick baguettes in the UK then half each slice to create a load of mini cheese slices.
