Another great dish for the working week. It is also light and refreshing, so make sure you enjoy this after a busy day in the office. I made this with sushi rice to get that real sticky feel to it – plus it makes it a perfect dish for using chopsticks….
After a visit to Barcelona this summer I just couldn’t resist bringing a little bit of Barcelona to my Berlin kitchen. My trip to Barcelona involved plenty of good food that you can read all about here. Aside from all the wonderful fish, cured ham, vegetables, cheese and wine, I absolutely loved the Catalan tomato bread. This was served with every meal and I fell in love with it straight away. The good thing about this bread is that it is simple to make.
This is a simple dish that is rich and indulgent and one for turning your potatoes into something more exciting! Try and serve this with something simple and easy so that you can fully enjoy the dauphinoise as a side dish. I served mine with some green beans and a steak as a real treat. You can also serve with this salmon fillet or a simple green salad. This is comfort food at it’s best.
You know something is wrong when you spot a pot of hummus in a supermarket and find this exciting. This is what happens when you try and master a German supermarket. Don’t get me wrong, I have commented enough times on how I love the
fresh, seasonal goods in Germany and there is no doubt that supermarkets over here are improving! When I very first moved to Berlin (yes, even in Berlin!) I would be lucky to find a packet of tortilla wraps… and the idea of stocking curry powder (any kind, there is no room for being fussy) or Thai red curry paste was totally out of this world. So how do we deal with a German supermarket? It’s simple. Just go back to basics and compromise by replacing a certain ingredient with something else and never, ever rely on the supermarket having a certain ingredient again. I made this mistake one too many times and ended up having a full basket of goods but one vital part of the meal not in my basket – for example red curry paste….
Strawberry season is nearing to an end. We all know how they love their seasonal goods over here in Germany so make sure to stock up on the final load of strawberries. What better way to get you through the winter than plenty of jars of strawberry jam in the cupboard?
