I have a new favourite brunch recipe – these delicious Ham, Egg and Mushroom Muffins! I came across the idea for these when thinking about healthy and appetizing breakfasts. I don’t really have that much of an appetite for breakfast until it gets to about 11am and then my stomach is rumbling. I am firm believer that breakfast really is an important meal of the day and that we need to eat something…

Cranberry and Stilton Stuffed Mushrooms
This is a recipe that can be used right from the start of the festive season when everyone is starting to cook something a little special in the kitchen, right to the end of the holidays when we are all rummaging in our fridges wanting to use up all those leftovers. These Cranberry and Stilton Stuffed Mushrooms can be made as a starter for the first dinner party of the season, served as canapés for your Christmas Eve drinks and nibbles or served at New Years Eve to make the last celebratory dinner of the year go out in style….
Chicken, Leek and Mushroom Pie
Seeing as it is British Pie Week it seems only right that I blog a new pie recipe. What can be more British? Stodgy fillings topped with crumbly pastry can often resemble a bit of a mess when plated. It is no wonder that traditional British food gets a bit of a bad reputation. But there is nothing humble about a pie! If anything, it is a real cornerstone of British cuisine and is what brings families and friends together over a delicious and hearty meal. And it is no secret that the British take their pies seriously!…
Baked Mushrooms with Avocado, Spinach and Walnut Pesto
I first made these Baked Mushrooms with Avocado, Spinach and Walnut Pesto when I was recipe testing for catering to different dietary requirements. A couple of people I know have had to completely change their diet due to health reasons and must carefully watch exactly what they eat. But there seems to be a growing divide when it comes to what we eat. Those who follow a clean and raw diet are seen to be judgemental and missing out on all the pleasure in life. Not true. Those who are able to eat sugar, butter, meat, pastry can sometimes be misjudged with others thinking this is only what…
Hummus Plate with Red Pepper Sauce and Grilled Mushrooms
Ah, hummus! A pot of basic hummus, some pitta bread and a simple fresh salad were part of my staple diet as a student. And while German supermarkets do not often stock hummus there is certainly no shortage of it in the plentiful Turkish supermarkets or Berlin’s street food scene. Head out for a Falafel Teller and there will often be a dollop of hummus on the side. But it is Zula Café that serves the real hummus treat! A favourite of mine is the hummus with the goulash but I also love the Sabich – aubergine, hummus and a hard boiled egg all stuffed in fresh pitta bread….
Grilled Halloumi and Mushroom Salad with a Mint Yoghurt Dressing
The weather feels more like January than the end of March. The weather is still cold and we have plenty of snow over here in Berlin. So much for tomorrow being the first day of spring.
This salad is vibrant, colourful and with a hint of spring meaning that you don’t need to let the cold weather get in the way of that spring feeling.
Easy to make, light and refreshing makes this a perfect mid week supper….
