Some days all you need is a bowl of pasta. I feel a little sorry for pasta these days. The ‘clean eating’ crowd have made it almost a sin to enjoy this much loved easy and simple ingredient. These guys have more or less put pasta under the same category of bad foods as frozen ready-meals. But pasta has been serving the Italians, and Mediterranean diets, perfectly well for a very long time. For me this is a key ingredient, it crops up on my meal plan once, or twice, a week as it is so versatile and is perfect for a quick yet delicious meal. This Pappardelle with Pork and Sage Meatballs…

Lemongrass Meatball Banh Mi
I have long been making a Banh Mi. I was first introduced to it years ago when Coco Banh Mi Deli opened up in Berlin and because a regular lunch spot. I am a big fan of grabbing a sandwich for lunch as I don’t always want something really big and feel that sometimes those ‘grab n go’ lunches offer something still delicious on a busy and short lunch break. And while I like to sometimes prepare ahead for those days that I know …
Oregano and Thyme Meatballs with a Tahini Yoghurt
I am a huge fan of a Mezze. Lots of little small plates all gathered together with different flavours and ingredients ready for a feast to be shared with friends and family. And for me that is what food is all about. It is there to bring people together over delicious food, finding new tastes and flavours and experimenting with different ingredients. Yet while a Mezze is typically an Eastern Mediterranean and Middle Eastern style of eating it doesn’t have to be just limited to this. Last year on a trip to San Francisco it was seen as a slightly more normal way to eat in downtown restaurants….
Parsley and Rosemary Meatball Tagine
You just can’t beat the sweet and spicy taste you get from a tagine. It is also a great way to use up any leftover meats. A Turkey Tagine is the perfect dish to use up any leftover turkey and you can easily add any chicken from a Sunday Roast. Middle Eastern food is one of my favourite cuisines. I love the use of fresh spices such as turmeric, cumin and coriander and delicious vegetables such as aubergines and juicy tomatoes, seasoned with paprika and preserved lemons, the use of nuts such as almonds and pistachios …
Courgetti with Meatballs in a Tomato and Spinach Sauce
Last week I kicked off the year with my Spaghetti Carbonara blog post and how I want to make 2017 the year of eating real food. Food that feeds a family, is affordable, enjoyable and contributes to a balanced diet. As I discussed there is so much pressure to eat clean or raw and to avoid certain food types such as gluten or dairy because they are considered bad for you. Many people are simply left with hefty shopping bills since self-appointed nutritionists are providing people with confusing information …
Moroccan Meatballs with Couscous
I have recently started a new job which is why the blogging had died down a bit the last couple of weeks. However, this has not stopped me from cooking! I am a big fan of batch cooking so that I can stock up my freezer and have meals ready prepared for a busy working week. Both me and my fiance have demanding jobs and work long hours so the working week meal plan is all about being quick and easy! …
Exberliner Column: Pork Panang Curry
Thai is one of my favourite cuisines – it is fresh, tasty and quick to make. And while there are a couple of good Thai restaurants around you just can’t beat making your own! I always stop by a local Asian store such as Asia Mekong to pick up plenty of fresh coriander and sweet basil. My cupboards are full of various spices which means this dish can be quick to prepare….
Swedish ‘Ikea’ Meatballs
We’re all familiar with a visit to Ikea. Stealing a recipe from their Swedish bistro may be kind of cheap but I love them! It was here that I first had Swedish meatballs! And it appears that I am not the only one. The canteens are completely packed out on a Saturday afternoon, I suspect just there for the meatballs….
