I am incredibly disappointed with Indian food in Berlin. I knew it was going to be a task to find a decent Madras or Jalfrezi but quite frankly – Indian food is no good in Berlin! The food is just a bowl of slop where most of the time I can taste no difference in the same tasteless sauce across all dishes on the menu. Generic is putting it mildly. …

Singapore Noodles
That sort of bright yellow (from the turmeric) dish of sloppy noodles with added crunch from the stir fried vegetables is what makes Singapore noodles a popular take away option! For me it is comfort food at its best or as Jamie Oliver calls this recipe – ‘hungover noodles’. …
Chicken Jalfrezi
Happy Friday! I am a big fan of Indian food and it’s something that I really miss in Berlin. There are a couple of good places such Meena Kumari but it is still not the same. To start, the food can lack heat and spice. And while I love going out for a curry whenever I am back in the UK you just can’t beat a home made version. It is healthier, tastier and you can add as much spice as you want. I also find it is less stodgy.…
A Modern Rose: Jerk Chicken
This weekend is Carnival of Cultures and I’ll be there enjoying some cocktails in the sunshine! I always have a look around the food stalls and last year the jerk chicken was a real winner for me. I love the hot and spicy chicken on a warm evening. I lighten this up a bit with a fresh and zingy mango salsa to go on the side….
Kung Pao Prawns
I find good Chinese food really hard to come by in Berlin. Places such as Good Friends in Kantstrasse or Peking Ente in Mitte serve up some pretty tasty dishes but I still find they lack the sweet or sourness of a dish or just need a bit more heat….
Kerala Prawn Curry
Chicken Khao Soi (Northern Thai Curry)
I don’t usually cook with egg noodles when making a Thai curry and instead tend to use rice noodles. But this Burmese influenced Thai dish is a popular street food and is so easy to make at home. Any kind of Thai curry sauce tends to be like a soup and this works really well with the egg noodles as they do not end up soft and like mush. …
Bulgogi Burger
Bulgogi burgers have been catching my attention now that I have now turned into a frequent visitor at Shiso Burger on Auguststraße. They serve up a variety of different burgers but it is their Korean inspired bulgogi burger that is the winner for me! The meat is juicy and the chilli base if full of flavour. Though they are a little on the small side you still have a choice of sides from twisted potatoes, coleslaw and sweet potato fries. Alternatively pop down to my very recent find, Ban Ban Kitchen, in Neukölln. Their juicy burgers are topped with kimchi. Next time I plan to try out their bulgogi döner and kimchi fries……
