I think 2018 is shaping up to be a pretty good summer! Of course while Berlin is hardly a Mediterranean climate I am fortunate to live in a city that experiences proper seasons such as cold winters, blooming springs, crisp and cosy autumns and a scorching summer. Yet this year summer has felt like it did when I very first moved to Berlin. I cannot remember the last time…

Halloumi and Aubergine Salad (with radish and celery)
The humble aubergine may have received a little negative press recently in relation to arthritus. And I say little because it really is little. Self-taught nutrionists make up a very small % of the actual nutritional advice out there and are the ones without any real case-controlled studies to back their points. Research is also very limited and overall most of us seem to get on ok with the aubergine! Including aubergines in your diet is incredibly healthy and a great way for those working on weight loss or controlling type 2 diabetes….
Lunchbox Recipes: Coriander and Lemon Bulgur Salad with Halloumi
Bon Appetit recently wrote an interesting article on how to have a better lunch at work. I am lucky to work in central Berlin – an exciting and dynamic city but the downside to this is that at lunchtime the areas and nearby are packed with tourists and everyone else! Finding somewhere for lunch can be a nightmare, especially when you are busy and rushed for time. I try and bring my own lunch at least 3 times a week to balance it out and while I do love a good Sandwich it does get a bit tedious!…
Exberliner Column: Halloumi and Couscous Salad with Hummus
We all talk about de-toxing in January but (despite our recent warm luck) these are the months where the weather gets extremely cold, the days are dark and grey and we are all suffering from the SAD. We crave a warming meat pie or a hearty stew – and I will certainly be tucking into those winter treats over the next month….
Mezze Platter: Taramasalata, Spicy Meatballs, Tzatziki and Aubergine, Halloumi Salad
This summer is already proving to be better weather wise compared to last year. The majority of July has been hot and sunny and it looks set to stay like this for at least the next couple of weeks! I shouldn’t complain, but the hot weather is getting just a little bit too hot now! We are set for 37 degrees over the weekend! This summer mezze platter is a great one for those warm weekends. Lots of different light things to eat that you can share with others. It is a great menu for a bit of al fresco dining this weekend on a warm evening!…
Grilled Halloumi and Mushroom Salad with a Mint Yoghurt Dressing
The weather feels more like January than the end of March. The weather is still cold and we have plenty of snow over here in Berlin. So much for tomorrow being the first day of spring.
This salad is vibrant, colourful and with a hint of spring meaning that you don’t need to let the cold weather get in the way of that spring feeling.
Easy to make, light and refreshing makes this a perfect mid week supper….
Grilled Halloumi with Roasted Vegetables
Happy Monday! Temperatures are creeping up slightly over here in Berlin and we are no longer freezing.
I have another easy working week treat for you. Halloumi reminds me of Berlin summers with it being a key ingredient for Berlin street food and BBQs in the park. I made the grilled halloumi with some winter veg to get the best of both worlds – a mix of both summer and winter….
