Happy New Year! I had every intention of kick starting the new year with some kind of clean eating, raw blog post. Then I realised that this is exactly what this blog is not meant to be about. Over the Christmas period I had a bit more time on my hands and caught up on a lot of blog reading and also came across many new and interesting food bloggers. But what struck me is this unhealthy obsession with eating everything clean and raw. To be honest, I now don’t want to hear the words clean or raw again….

Chanterelle Risotto
After a few beers at the Prater Beer Garden last week a few friends and I then decided on dinner at the restaurant. The menu was full of pfifferlinge. The little mushrooms were served with schnitzel, in a salad or as a sauce. I love chanterelle and always forget just how short the season is which is why this week I quickly snapped up a box at my local Rewe….
Singapore Noodles
That sort of bright yellow (from the turmeric) dish of sloppy noodles with added crunch from the stir fried vegetables is what makes Singapore noodles a popular take away option! For me it is comfort food at its best or as Jamie Oliver calls this recipe – ‘hungover noodles’. …
Mexican Style Quiche
It always surprises me how difficult it is to find quiche in a German supermarket – everyone loves quiche! I always think back to my student days and shopping in Asda or Tesco. There would be a huge selection of quiche! But when I moved to Germany it was near impossible to find a ready made quiche in the supermarket. Now, I am kind of grateful … making your own is not only easy but also delicious!…
Simple Prawn Salad with a Marie Rose Dressing
This is one of my favourite summer dishes and definitely one that I recommend for a hot day! It involves no standing over a load of hot pans and is very quick and easy to make. I keep the salad simple by just using some watercress or fresh rocket, some finely sliced cucumber and a handful of cherry tomatoes. I serve some fresh bread on the side. Alternatively this is a lovely starter for a dinner party!…
Exberliner Column: Coriander and Lime Potato Salad
The sun sure is shining lately! I spent my weekend by the lakes and then cooling down with a cold beer in the Prater Garden in the evenings. And while the weather is starting to cool down it doesn’t mean that the BBQ weather is over for good this summer! …
Mixed Vegetable Curry
We eat too much meat. This will upset a lot of people who think that a meal should always consist of some kind of meat but it’s true – in the US and Europe in particular we eat far too much meat. This is not only catastrophic for the environment (ideally we need to reduce meat consumption by 50% according to studies…) but we also don’t need that much meat in our diet. I regularly see people eating chicken for lunch and then they will cook more meat later on for dinner. Countries such as Germany and Hungary are still big on having cold meats for breakfast too. …
Weekend Lunch: Smoked Salmon Salad with Mozzarella
During the working week it is very easy to grab a sandwich and take it back to our desks or to dash out and enjoy one of Berlin’s various food options. The weekend is then the perfect chance to enjoy a healthier food option. But when do we still find the time?
Since moving to Berlin I have grown to love the whole ‘everything is closed on Sundays apart from cafes and fleamarkets’ thing. It’s great! The one day in the week when I can catch up with blogging, sorting through my photos, catching up on emails to friends, walks in the sunshine (when it actually shines!) and just general laziness. But this means that Saturday is a day to fit in everything else that I have no time for during the week and cannot do on a Sunday….
