Beef Carpaccio is a wonderful dish to serve as a sharing plate. My favourite style of eating is creating a few small plates and putting them in the middle of the table, ready to dive in and taste all the wonderful ingredients laid out in front of me. It is why Beef Carpaccio is best served in this way so that you then only need a few slices of meat per person and can then focus on getting good quality meat. And that is the crucial part to this dish, it needs good quality meat which in this case can get a little expensive. It is however, completely worth it….

Beef Koftas with Tabbouleh
I am a huge fan of Tabbouleh! There is no shortage of good quality Middle Eastern food here in Berlin and a well made tabbouleh has long been a favourite of mine. And while Berlin might be famous for it’s Döner Kebabs and slightly bland, cheap take out’s that serve cheap and greasy falafel, it is actually very easy to also find the good quality places! Babel, a laid-back Lebanese restaurant that serves the most delicious hummus and falafel plates or halloumi wraps is my favourite, especially on a warm summer evening….
Courgetti with Meatballs in a Tomato and Spinach Sauce
Last week I kicked off the year with my Spaghetti Carbonara blog post and how I want to make 2017 the year of eating real food. Food that feeds a family, is affordable, enjoyable and contributes to a balanced diet. As I discussed there is so much pressure to eat clean or raw and to avoid certain food types such as gluten or dairy because they are considered bad for you. Many people are simply left with hefty shopping bills since self-appointed nutritionists are providing people with confusing information …
Bulgogi Burger
Bulgogi burgers have been catching my attention now that I have now turned into a frequent visitor at Shiso Burger on Auguststraße. They serve up a variety of different burgers but it is their Korean inspired bulgogi burger that is the winner for me! The meat is juicy and the chilli base if full of flavour. Though they are a little on the small side you still have a choice of sides from twisted potatoes, coleslaw and sweet potato fries. Alternatively pop down to my very recent find, Ban Ban Kitchen, in Neukölln. Their juicy burgers are topped with kimchi. Next time I plan to try out their bulgogi döner and kimchi fries……
Swedish ‘Ikea’ Meatballs
We’re all familiar with a visit to Ikea. Stealing a recipe from their Swedish bistro may be kind of cheap but I love them! It was here that I first had Swedish meatballs! And it appears that I am not the only one. The canteens are completely packed out on a Saturday afternoon, I suspect just there for the meatballs….
Korean Beef Lettuce Wraps (simple egg fried rice and quick cucumber Kimchi)
I love Korean food. It is spicy, quick and fresh. It packs a completely different flavour to say Chinese or Malaysian food but is a lot lighter than your typical Indian curries. A real favourite Korean dish of mine is of course the famous Bibimbap. The egg cooked with fried rice and mixed vegetables are a real comfort food. It is the Gochujang paste that is the crucial part of any Korean dish. The spicy red pepper paste can be bought from most Asian stores and will add a real kick….
Exberliner Column: Burgers and Tomato Relish
When I first moved to Berlin The Bird and White Trash were the places to go if you wanted a decent burger. They were, back then, some of the only good restaurants that had decent beef burgers, crispy chips and a good atmosphere. Now, dare I say it – we are almost spoilt for choice. Exberliner’s recent burger week test drove a load of places where you can get a burger….
Beef and Red Wine Pie
I am loving the happy foodie scene at Street Food Thursday at Markthalle IX that’s been going on since April! At Street Food Thursday I came across Korean BBQ and tacos, Indian (and can I point out that it really was good Indian food!), smoked fish and a fabulous Tarte Tatin stall. But it was the meat pie that caught my eye!
