There is something so indulgent about this Pork Belly Roast with Baked Apples. This recipe perfects that beautifully soft and juicy flesh under that crisp and crunchy layer of crackling. And yet it is a meat that is still relatively cheap and so easy to prepare. It does require a little cooking time but what I like about it is that you can simply shut the oven door and sit back for most of it, while the meat roasting away will fill your kitchen with that beautiful home cooking smell….

Almond and Pecan Apple Crumble
This all time favourite dessert needs to be served with a large dose of nostalgia on the side. I mean who doesn’t love an apple crumble? It is one of those classic recipes that we all grew up on and a recipe that we all try to re-create to the same standards as our childhood memories. Even the apple crumble’s served at school dinners were actually OK… and that is really saying something. Is it because this is a dessert that is hard to get wrong, or simply that we all have a fondness for this rather stodgy and basic pudding?…
Spicy Apple and Tomato Chutney
I find that a jar of chutney is a great one to keep in the cupboard. It can easily jazz up a piece of plain meat such as a pork chop or some grilled chicken, a quick one to whip out at a dinner party with some cheese and can add a lovely sweet kick to a lunch time salad or sandwich.
I first made my own chutney a few years ago when it was difficult to find a jar of chutney in a standard German supermarket…
Goats Cheese Wrapped in Parma Ham
Tomorrow’s Valentine’s Day – a holiday not as popular in Germany as in the US and the UK, but whether you’re in the mood for love or not, be warned that it will still be difficult to find a table on the night unless you’ve booked. A friend of mine last year tried to reserve a table the night before and luckily ended up with the last table reservation at Ars Vini. At 4:30pm….
Pork Chops with Apples and Walnuts
Apple Cake
Autumn is in full swing! Not that I am pleased that summer is over but a small part of me is happy that the days are cooler, my flat is cosy and warm and the evenings are drawing in. It must then be apple season! They are everywhere at the moment and are falling out of their boxes at local farmers markets and in the supermarkets – and therefore ending up on my plate a bit too often!…
Bonfire Night! Apple Crumble
Many of you will be going to a firework display this weekend in aid of bonfire night. Unfortunately there are no firework displays for me over here in Germany.
Apple crumble is perfect for afterwards. A real British classic and will warm you up this bonfire weekend. Enjoy!
