I love a good burger! Even Berlin has become better for it’s burgers this past year. We are no longer relying on The Bird for our burger fix. A favourite of mine is Tommi’s serving up delicious cheese burgers and I love the bun bao burgers at Royals and Rice.
With this weekend set to be a hot and sunny one I am going to make one of my favourites – a shrimp burger. This is so light and fresh and easy to make. Stick it on the BBQ or pop it under the grill! I serve this with a fresh tartare sauce.

Serves: makes 4 burgers
Ingredients
- For the shrimp burgers:
- 800g shrimps (de-frosted)
- 2 shallots (peeled and finely chopped)
- Small bunch of fresh parsley
- 75g breadcrumbs
- 2 tspn dried chilli flakes
- Juice of half a lemon
- Ground black pepper
- 1 egg (beaten)
- 2 cloves garlic (peeled and crushed)
- Burger buns, watercress, rocket, avocado and jalapenos to serve
- For the Tartar Sauce:
- 3 small gherkins (finely chopped)
- 2 tbpsn small capers
- 300g creme fraiche
- Juice of half a lemon
- Parsley to garnish
Instructions
- To make the Tartar Sauce: Put the ingredients into a small bowl and mix together. Place in the fridge until needed.
- Add the shrimps, garlic, parsley and shallots to a food blender and whizz until it forms a thick, chunky paste. Pour into a large mixing bowl.
- Add the breadcrumbs, lemon juice and chilli flakes to the mixing bowl. Pour in the egg and then mix so that everything is well combined.
- Roll into patties and then heat a large frying pan with 1 tbpsn sunflower oil. Once hot cook the burgers on each side for around 3-4 minutes.
- Drain the burgers on some kitchen paper to remove any excess oil and then plate up the burgers with the buns and garnish. Top with the tartar sauce and enjoy!
