The weather has been great recently and we have just had a public holiday in Germany. The long weekend and sunshine meant that this was a perfect time to have a picnic. Sausage rolls are a must have for a picnic and are a popular party food. I made these the other day to go with our picnic.
Ingredients:
400g sausage meat or sausages
1 small onion (finely chopped)
1 tspn dijon mustard
puff pastry (in a packet or ready made)
1 tbpsn butter
- Preheat oven to gas mark 6/ 190 degrees celsius
- Add onions to a pan with butter and cook on a low heat
- If you are using sausages then cut them in half and squeeze out the meat into a mixing bowl. If you are using sausage meat then add this to the bowl. Mix and mash well
- Add the dijon mustard and then add the onions. Mix everything together
- Roll out the pastry and cut in half
- Spread the sausage mixture lengthways in the middle of each strip. Then neatly fold over each side of the pastry making sure that it is tighlty sealed. Cut into squares
- Place in the oven for 20 – 25 mins until the pastry is golden brown and the inside is cooked
