What can I say? This is some serious chocolate business. It is also easy to make. I promise you though, it won’t last long so make sure to grab yourself a slice right away!
Ingredients:
100g dark chocolate (broken into pieces)
5 tbpsn nutella (generous scoops)
150g flour
1 tbpsn baking powder
75g caster sugar
3 large free range eggs
75g butter
25g ground hazlenuts
Icing:
150ml double cream
100g dark chocolate (broken into pieces)
whole hazlenuts
- Preheat the oven to gas mark 5 and line a round cake tin with baking paper
- Heat the butter in a deep saucepan on a medium heat
- Once the butter is almost melted turn down the heat to it’s lowest setting and then add the chocolate
- Once the chocolate is melted take the pan off the heat
- Stir in the eggs and sugar and beat well
- Then stir in the ground hazelnuts and mix again
- Fold in the flour and baking powder and make sure that everything in the pan is combined
- Pour into the baking tin and place in the oven for 45 – 50 mins
- Once out the oven leave to cool for 15 mins
- Then prepare the icing by melting the chocolate in a small pan
- Once the chocolate is melted add the cream and take off the heat. Stir well with a whisk until the sauce thickens
- Pour onto the top of the cake and spread evenly
- Add the hazlenuts around the edge and in the middle
- Leave to cool and set before helping yourself to a large slice
Wow! This sure is a serious chocolate cake. I have to make two of these because I know one is not enough for my chocolate crazed family.
It really is some serious chocolate going on. But absolutely delicious and perfect for a treat every now and then. Let me know how it goes down with your family and how soon it is gone 🙂
